The Incomparable Miss Leigh!

You could say Miss Leigh’s early introduction to dance  was “doctor’s orders.”

Her family’s doctor suggested ballet as a way to correct her mild case of pigeon toe. She was a first grader at the time, but all it took was one class and Miss Leigh was hooked! She continued her training and helped teach dance at the community center when she was in high school.

Even though her father dreamed of one day seeing her name in lights, Miss Leigh loved children and dreamed of teaching in her own dance studio.

In 1970, Miss Leigh’s dream came true when she opened her first studio in her mother’s Olathe living room. She’s been sharing her love of dance ever since. Even in semi-retirement, Miss Leigh continues to teach a preschool combo class one morning a week.

Leigh’s is the longest-established dance studio in Olathe, and one of only two dance schools in the Kansas City Metro Area that has been in business for so many years.

And here’s something else not many people know.

Leigh’s School of Dance started the first competition team in Johnson County back in 1991. Since then, competitive dance has grown so much in popularity, the Kansas City area is able to host sometimes three or more competitions in one weekend!
