A.J. is the newest edition to our dance family. He began teaching our Company and Pre-Company dancers ballet last summer, added Modern in the fall, and has recently started instructing a weekly Teens/Adults Heels class (talk about a workout!). A.J. comes to us from New York, but he’s an Olathe original and attended college in Kansas, as well. We’re thrilled to welcome him back to Kansas and are so grateful to everything he brings to Leigh’s School of Dance. His dance bio is below.
A.J. Hopes-Pflumm graduated from Wichita State University with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. He has performed in numerous works choreographed by Peter Chu, Helen Simoneau, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Janice Garrett, Cheyla Clawson, Rachel Boyajian, Denise Celestin, Sabrina Vasquez, Nick Johnson, Aaron McGloin, and Sam Householder and has toured these works both nationally and internationally (Italy, England, Kansas, Chicago, and New York). He has been a guest artist/instructor for many Kansas-based companies including Ballet Wichita, Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre, Mid-America Dance Theatre, Alithea Creations, and Clawson Dances. A.J. has also taught classes at Gibney Dance and various other NYC studios. He also guides young students through the creation process. In 2015, he attended Springboard Danse Montreal. In addition to performing, A.J. has created works for WCDT, MADT, American Liberty Ballet, and Ballet Wichita, and works on self-produced material with his husband under the by-project platform name, CaptiveFlow Dance. A.J. is currently working on his Master’s in Dance Education.
